Barbara Finck-Beccafico (she/they/them)
In the aftermath of a challenging birth journey, as prepared as I thought I was, and while discovering what it truly means to be a parent on a daily basis, I felt called to be part of changing the paradigm of birth. Supporting families in their birth journey, helping them see the success in every birth, even when things don't go exactly as planned, has become a true calling and passion for me.
As a lifelong learner and true birth nerd, I have spent many years training to become the most complete support possible, as a birth doula of course, but also as a holistic practitioner, as well as an end-of-life doula (to be able to support them in the face of grief). Parents also appreciate my work as a photographer, allowing them to preserve priceless memories of this unique journey of childbirth.
I am dedicated to advocating for empowered birth for ALL, having supported parents from all walks of life, with very different birth wishes: from completely natural home births to planned cesareans. I center my entire practice around giving families as much autonomy as possible, providing them with scientifically based information, without judgment, while inviting parents to connect with their instincts. Witnessing a birth is a true privilege, and I feel extremely grateful to be welcomed into this sacred space.
When I'm not coaching, I spend my time composing music and creating audiovisual works. I am passionate about travel, having visited over 90 countries, made 5 expeditions to the Antarctic and Arctic, and lived in South Korea, France, and Mexico. I love cooking, spending time with my friends and family (my 4-year-old and 4-month-old children, whom I happily tandem breastfeed, and her stay-at-home parent partner), as well as constantly learning more about childcare topics (baby food, cloth diapers, baby-led weaning, gentle parenting, Montessori/Waldorf/Reggio education, etc.).

I am so grateful that I decided to give birth with Barbara as my doula. My first birth was traumatic for me because of an unwanted C-section. I wanted to be better prepared for the next pregnancy and birth, so I started looking for a doula this time. From the first call, I felt sure that Barbara was my person, a very supportive, sincere and professional person . Barbara gave me a clear picture of giving birth in Montreal since I am new here. She always got answers to all my questions during my pregnancy, labor and birth. I love that she never avoids direct questions and gives the best advice and options based on research and my preferences. During labor and birth, she did everything to make it smooth. I can't imagine if she hadn't been there. She did a tremendous job, always defending my choices and standing by my side while mitigating circumstances to balance my preferences and the hospital's "protocols " to find a better solution for me. It was difficult for me to last the last two hours without the epidural, but thanks to Barbara who knew exactly what to suggest, supporting me with massages, helping me choose a better position, and cheering me up whenever necessary, I was able to have my natural birth. I highly recommend Barbara as a professional in her work. I would say it's even more than a "job," you feel how dedicated she is , as if it were her spiritual calling. She is always by your side, which is very important when sometimes you have different mood fluctuations: depressed/indecisive/or almost wanting to give up. Thank you. I would choose Barbara again (if I ever decide to go for the 3rd child :D) and I would recommend her to anyone who wants to experience a conscious and gentle birth.

Barbara was super available and allowed me to be an actor in my delivery, despite the fact that it was a cesarean, and master of my choices. She defended me in front of the caregivers. She gave me strength . In postpartum she also allowed me to have confidence in myself. I would not have succeeded in breastfeeding without her help I think. Single mother by choice I had twins and Barbara was able to do skin to skin with one of the two during the welcome feeding of the other, it was great. I particularly appreciated her scientific approach : her knowledge of studies, figures, medical reasons for favoring this or that approach. I also liked that she asked me for news, how things were going, if I needed help especially after the delivery, I did not dare too much for fear of disturbing too much. Her support suited me perfectly. Thank you Barbara!

A doula was exactly what I needed to guide me through the incredible journey of birth. I am so grateful to have had Barbara's support for the birth of my first child. Her presence during my hospital delivery was invaluable ! She played a key role in the success of this special event. Barbara provided me with evidence-based information and suggested many helpful resources that helped me prepare for labor. During labor, she knew exactly the right comfort measures for me, and I believe her suggestion to change positions really helped my labor progress. With Barbara's support, I felt empowered and had the courage to give birth in the position that was right for me. My birth story is filled with positivity, strength, and joy, and I believe Barbara's presence and expertise were essential to making the process go smoothly. Not only is Barbara an amazing doula, but she is also a talented photographer ! I am so grateful that she captured the special moments of my daughter's birth and the joy and connection between my partner and I during this transformative experience. Barbara provided me with tremendous support before, during, and after the birth. I highly recommend her exceptional services as a Doula and photographer! Thank you, Barbara! I am forever grateful!
